Should I Blog or Should I Web?

What Is The Difference Between A Blogsite And A Website?

Well blogsites (like this one) enable you to blog!
Blogsites allow you (and others) to share your thoughts simply and easily and arrange all these 'postings' chronologically. The simplest blogs are a bit like online diaries that can be updated whenever you like. Have a read of some of my posts as examples. Websites however are not as socialable; generally people's responses to what you are posting would usually not appear publicly for all to see (and add to) but would be e.mailed to your private e.mail box. So generally up until now, websites have been less socially interactive and  more communicative (of prices products information etc.) Having said that recently businesses have woken up to the fact that products get sold relationally. Good relationships with customers build trust which can eventually lead to more sales. So now-a-days there is often a blurring between blogs and websites. Most websites contain a blog where the company owner posts thoughts, tip and tricks. Some blogs (like this one) have static pages which really means they are more like websites.

So Which Is Best?

Well that depends on what you want to do and only you know what the aim of your site is blog is. Both have individual valid merits.

So What Do I Need to start my Blog or Website?

Well the very first thing you will need is a domain name and a place to store your domain name (A Hosting Service) or is it? Well in actual fact I started out learning the internet business ropes without either because I started off by using Google's free blogging service (Blogger). Google present you with a free domain name ending in blahblahblah.blogspot.com and they host this account free for you. In fact you are reading this on my free blogger account at this moment! Not a lot of people know this but you can use blogger as a website as well as a blog and have up to ten pages on it (just as I have done). You are currently reading page 2. It certainly does the trick whilst you are an internet novice and you will learn how to design your site, cut and paste code, insert money making affilaite links etc. A great start!

You will probably get to a point however, where you will want to do more than blogger will allow and actually have a web presence. To be honest although you have found me on blogger I also run a concurrent business website. Blogging is great for sharing your thoughts and writing about your hobbies and so on and if that is all you are going to be doing great, stick with blogger but a lot of people are not going to take you seriously unless you have a proper website and with that you will need a domain name and a web host.
